The Episode

In "The Last Supper," Abbi and Ilana celebrate Abbi's 26th birthday with a lavish dinner at a swanky restaurant. But the evening takes a chaotic turn when Ilana, despite being allergic to shellfish, insists on eating massive amounts of it in every course. As the meal progresses, Ilana's condition worsens, with her allergic reaction becoming increasingly severe, and hilarious.

But, she’s saving room for that molten lava cake.

Molten Lava Cakes

Little chocolate wonders with a delicate, cakey exterior that gives way to a gooey, molten chocolate center.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter

  • 4 oz (115g) bittersweet chocolate, chopped

  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 large egg yolks

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour

  • Pinch of salt

  • Butter and cocoa powder (for greasing ramekins)

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease 4 ramekins (6 oz each) with butter and dust with cocoa powder. Tap out any excess cocoa powder.

  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and chopped chocolate together in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until smooth. Let it cool slightly.

  3. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, eggs, egg yolks, and vanilla extract until well combined and slightly frothy.

  4. Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the sugar and egg mixture. Stir until fully incorporated.

  5. Sift in the flour and add a pinch of salt. Gently fold the mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

  6. Evenly divide the batter among the prepared ramekins. Place them on a baking sheet for easy handling.

  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are set but the center is still soft. The tops should look firm but jiggle slightly when shaken.

  8. Let the cakes cool for 1 minute. Run a knife around the edges to loosen them and carefully invert each cake onto a serving plate. Serve immediately, garnished with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
